My Design Process
Product (UX) Design Process
I've developed a tailored process for each solution I design, drawing on industry best practices that I've honed through years of experience and numerous projects. While the core steps remain consistent, they may vary depending on the specific design goals.
Stakeholder Alignment
Identify the key people involved in the project (both official and those who just have an interest) and meet with each of them to learn about their goals, expectations, and how they’ll measure success. Then, meet with the product and development teams to clarify the project’s goals, requirements, and success factors so you can fully understand the design solutions needed.
Artifact Analysis

Look at any existing user research and current designs to gather ideas that can help improve and refine future solutions.
Heuristic Analysis
Check the usage data from tools like Google or any apps that track user activity. I’ll also analyze existing designs to identify issues and start coming up with user-friendly design ideas.
Market and Competitor Research
Do research on design best practices for the project. I’ll look at competitor apps and create a UX benchmark to compare them.
UX Best Practice Research
Look into proven UX best practices and industry research, then use that knowledge to create innovative design solutions.
User Research
Lead or assist with user research and interviews as needed. I create materials like personas, user journeys, and scenarios based on the research.
SME Interviews
Interview subject matter experts related to the product and use the feedback to further inspire goal-oriented design solutions.
Wireframe, Visuals and Prototyping
Use the data and learnings gathered, I create information architecture flows, wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes.
Product and Development Review
Review design drafts, wires, prototypes, etc. with product and development and refine designs based on feedback.
User Testing and Refinement
Lead or support user testing on prototypes. I refine designs based on user and product team feedback until an MVP design is agreed upon.
Final Signoff
Review user research findings, design drafts, wires, prototypes, etc. with product and development and refine designs based on feedback until an agreed MVP is created.
Development Collaboration
Work with developers and engineers as they implement designs for launch and refine designs as showstoppers and technical limitations may arise. Once launched, I continually analyze usage and optimize the product until product end of life.
